Get Frequent Flier Miles For Doing Short Surveys
I have been on a mission for a little while now to make it out to Vegas. Don't ask me why. I guess really for me, I would just like to experience it and claim that I've been there. I've been looking at the packages and the hotels (especially with the economy) have really great prices right now. However, the airlines aren't following suit. Living out in Georgia, I haven't seen a lot of good flight specials. So, for just a weekend out there we're looking at like $1000. Nope, not gonna do it. I refuse to. I could go on a week long cruise for that. So, what's my alternative? www.e-miles.com . There, you can watch/read advertisements and then take short surveys. When I say short, I'm talking like no more than 10 questions. They reward you with miles for taking the survey then they offer you more if you decide you want to take advantage of that advertiser's special (no obligation though).
You set up E-miles with your current frequent flier program or if you don't have one you can easily sign up for one with one of the carriers. I picked Northwest. When you hit 500 points and beyond you can deposit those points into your FF account. Then of course when you meet the amount you need, you can get a ticket through the airline. It's super easy to get miles. It may take a while, but if you're like me and your alternative is paying $1000...you're not in too much of a hurry.

The Lord Works In Mysterious Ways
So, you might've read about our refinance in a previous post. Well, we finally closed yesterday. I was totally stoked that we were going to have an extra $200 a month. Well, today we got a bit a bad news. Seems as though DH's company got some poor future projections so they are requiring everyone to take a 5% pay cut. Now, I am not complaining by any means. I am glad that his company is taking action now before there is a serious problem. I am just hoping that by taking this action it will either prevent layoffs or to keep there from being too many. I am extremely thankful that he still has his job! However, the 5% pay cut equals $200 a month. How crazy is that? God was telling me to refinance the house. It was just crazy to me that we closed yesterday and got the bad news today and the fact that the figures were so exact to each other. $200 even. Wow.

Ruby Tuesday BOGO

It was such a pleasant surprise to find that the newspaper puter-together guy was very kind to me. He put in 4 Ruby Tuesday inserts for the buy one get one free entrees. So tonight, we were able to eat steak and salad for only $18. DS is still sick so we just placed the order to go. We were then able to have our drinks at home saving more money. Not too bad for steaks at $9 a person.
If you haven't gone through your paper today and you like Ruby Tuesday, I would recommend you go ahead and check through it.

The Snack & Play Travel Tray Review & Giveaway (closed)
I was so happy that Star Kid Products was generous enough to send me the Snack and Play Travel Tray to review! Talk about a super great product! I don't know about you...but long trips with DS can be a real pain. I mean, DVDs only go so far...and that's only if you actually have the DVD player in the car. I'm sure if you have more, it can be very trying. DS is in his phase now that he's always asking "What's that?". So you can imagine how many times I'm asked that on a simple trip to the store. The Snack and Play Travel Tray helps to resolve some of these problems! With this tray, DS is able to sit in the car and color or do various other activities including eating! Once I installed it for DS he was so excited he could color. He now fusses if it isn't installed when we get in the car. I guess that's a good problem to have.

The design of this tray is very usable and very durable. It is soft and sturdy at the same time making it comfortable for your child. It is made of nylon which is very easily cleaned. Also, it has mesh side pockets which adds extra stay in place storage for say crayons or sippy cups. Also, if you notice it has high edges meaning as you turn or stop, nothing is going to go sliding off the tray! As you can see in the picture, it is very easy to use. Just put your child in the car seat and then wrap the attached strap around the car seat and buckle it. It works the same way for strollers! Storage is easy too! It simply just folds up and you can store it either in your trunk or in the pocket on the back of the front seat (if your car has these)! Think about how much time you can save not having to turn around to pick up things for your fussy child! Or, if you're like me...having to make U-turns because you were too busy talking your child out of crying because something went under the seat! I love this and because it is such a time and sanity saver, it is a definite frugal pick!
Star Kids Products wants to give a special someone one of these trays! The contest will start today (Saturday 2/21/09) and will end Saturday 2/28/09 at 11:59pm EST.

Crocs For The Whole Family
If you're a Croc wearer, you'll be happy to know that Finish Line (link starts from high prices to low) is having a Croc sale. They are for the whole family and range from $4.98-$9.98. The shipping is kind of a drag but it's still a great deal! It's even better if you can have them shipped to store! Ebates offers an additional 5% back. I'm not totally big on the traditional style but I was able to swipe some flip flops for $4.98. It's worth checking out!

Refinancing
I am so sorry it's taken so long for me to post. It's just been so hectic and then I got sick. Well, I won't bore you with the unimportant details but I really am sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again.
Soooo...we are closing on our refinance on Monday. This has been a big money saver for us. Refinancing will allow us to save an additional $200 a month. Which, for us, seemed worth it. What is that....like $72,000 saved over the course of the loan? Of course I highly doubt we will be in this house for 30 years...but then again with the given market, never say never. We only refinanced to lower the monthly payment and of course the APR. We did not take any money out.
The current market was another reason why we decided to refinance. Oh yeah sure, the low rates helped too. However, we live in a county with a very high foreclosure rate. As you probably already know, foreclosures bring the value of your house down. So, it just made more since to me to be applying more towards the principal and less towards interest. DH works in a local satellite office for his company. His company is in Ohio. So, there's always a chance we may have to move. If that was to happen, and they didn't offer a relocation package I would feel more comfortable with a lil more wiggle room if we had to sell the house.
Now of course, refinancing isn't always a good idea for everyone. It really depends on a lot of factors like your current rate, how much longer you have, total principal....ect. If you're not sure of your total situation, it doesn't hurt to talk to someone at your bank.
Also, it may pose a difficult situation if your house cannot appraise for what you need to refinance for. If you have a lot of foreclosures in your area this can help that problem. In my research, I did find a loophole to this problem if you already have an FHA loan. We have an FHA loan and like I said before we live in an area with a lot of foreclosures. At this point I'm not SUPER concerned with our home's value but at the same time I didn't wanna take a chance and lose $300 for an appraisal if it didn't appraise. So, again, if you have an FHA loan and want to refinance, the FHA streamline loan would be a good choice for you. The purpose of this loan is to lower your monthly payment...you cannot take out any money say to consolidate bills or something. What's also great about this is the fact that you do not have to have an appraisal done. However, you cannot ask for more than what the original loan was for. So, if five years ago you bought a house for $200,000 and you wanted to do the streamline refinance now, you cannot get more than $200,000. I was so excited when I found this. It made things a lot less stressful. So, if you're looking to refinance and you already have an FHA loan this is definitely something to look at. You may find more information here. I was also told if you have a VA loan they don't require an appraisal either...but I don't have any experience with that so I would check with your bank if you do have a VA loan.
Of course, if you have a conventional loan and want to refinance...don't let this FHA talk turn you off from that. Go talk to your local bank and look around your neighborhood and see what houses like yours sold for. If it's inline with what you will need to refinance then it's really worth looking at.

Free Madagascar 2 DVD

I made a CVS trip today. Now I'm just learning to CVS so I don't have a lot of combination deals for you. However, they do have $15 off off the $19.99 Madagascar 2 DVD making it $4.99 when you buy $20 in Proctor and Gamble products. Then, you can go here and print out the $5 off coupon. It does say for the 2 DVD set or 1 blueray, however it scanned today at CVS with no problems just for the 1 regular DVD. So I purchased the Charmin 16 pack toilet paper for $9.99, the Bounty paper towel 8 pack for $6.99 and 4 bottles of Dawn at .99 each. It was stuff I had to buy anyways and it was just an added bonus to get the free DVD. If you already have harvested Extra Care Bucks then this would be an even awesome-er deal!
Separate deal, I also got the Gillette Power Fusion Power for DH...he saw it on TV and wanted to try it. It's on sale for $7.99 with $4.00 ECB. I had the coupon from today's paper $4.00 off which made it free.

The Munchie Mug Snack Cup Review!
The Munchie Mug Snack Cup is a Godsend for those with children just learning to feed themselves or toddlers. I very much enjoyed reviewing this product. My car and vacuum cleaner are both thrilled!
The Munchie Mug is a spill resistant cup that allows the child to get the food but won't let the food fall out.
The Munchie Mug is made to be very durable. It can be thrown across the car and the snacks stay in place. It is manufactured in the USA (woo!) and is made of 100% recycleable materials (double woo!) making it great for the country and the planet! It is dishwasher safe so it can be always ready to go!
As a family constantly on the go, I absolutely HEART the Munchie Mug. I really can't explain to you what kind of mess maker DS is. It's always a plus if there's one less thing I have to clean! I cannot tell you how often (prior to the Munchie Mug) that I would have to vacuum out just DS' side of the car and car seat. This is a great frugal product!
Do your part to help the economy and your sanity. Buy the Munchie Mug today!

Peoplefood For Dogs
As I mentioned a little while ago our dog recently had a litter of puppies. She had had 6 and we gave away 4 to our closest friends. We decided to keep one (Vader) and we still had one to giveaway (Spanky). We finally found another friend who's children wanted a puppy but before we could give them Spanky she got deathly ill. A picture of Spanky is in the last post. It was taken a couple of days ago. DS took it upon himself to hold her a lot and tell people when they came over "panky sick" he never pronounces the "S".
It started out as a limp on a late Sunday night. I had noticed Spanky limping so I thought maybe she'd played too hard with Vader or maybe DS had tried to pick her up and drop her. Once I noticed, I checked it out, moved it around, felt it to make sure it wasn't broken....nothing. She didn't wince in pain when I fooled with it. So, I made the decision to take her to the vet when they were open late. My vet is only open late one night which is Wednesday and that allows me not to miss work. As the days, progressed she got worse and worse. I thought it was strange at the time because her acts weren't consistent with a hurt leg....she was acting like she was sick. She wasn't eating, she wasn't drinking....nothing.
By the time I was able to get her to the vet which ended up being Wed morning ( I took off from work) She was in very bad shape. The vet found that the inside of her ears were very swollen, her lymph nodes were starting to swell, her bottom was swollen, she had a fever and she was dehydrated. The vet told me he'd be surprised if Spanky made it through the night. I felt sooo bad. Here I was thinking it was just her leg and I never thought to even look at her ears or anything else for that matter. Trying to work around my tears, the vet tried to console me telling me there's no way I would have known to check but I still felt like the worse person ever.
Because she wasn't eating or drinking, the vet wanted to put her in the hospital. At $150-$300 a DAY there was no way I could afford that. That's what I told him. I said that I feel dogs are just like people and do their best healing at home where they're comfortable. Give her fluids now, give me drugs and I'll bring her back if we need to. So that's what he did.
Once I got home from the vet, I noticed there was a package at the door. Upon opening it, I noticed it was the Peoplefood For Dogs. Now I had agreed to review this product based really on taste....I didn't think I was going to be reviewing it for it's literal purpose. Desperate, I opened it up, heated it up and gave it to Spanky praying she would eat it. It was the Chicken, Oatmeal, and Sweet Potato kind. Boy did she scarf it up. She ate a whole bowl just in that sitting. Finally! We made progress! I immediately called the vet who advised me to continue feeding her that. Throughout her recovery, she's been eating the Peoplefood For Dogs. I've slowly been introducing puppy food back into it and she has responded terrifically! She's even put the weight back on! I'm sure you're asking me what she has, I can't remember the long scientific name...but it was only the 2nd time in my vet's 30 years that he'd ever seen it and it only effects puppies. Strangely enough, none of the other puppies have been effected. We go for her 4th vet visit this weekend. We finally got the swelling down and her playful temperament is back so I think we're gonna get some good news.
I love the Peoplefood For Dogs snack food wholeheartedly because it saved my puppy's life. Everything is natural and the ingredients are ones you can find at your every day grocery store. It really is a great solution for dogs who are sick or may have just gone through surgery. Vets do recommend the ingredients that are used in these snacks. Also, it can make taking medicine a tad bit easier for the dog.
Spanky's angel Dee really came through for her. Dee owns Peoplefood For Dogs. She is a total sweetheart and she is looking for companies/pet stores to distribute this great product. Tell your local pet store you want this product on their shelves! Information on how to get involved is on her website. She has 4 different flavors:

Chicken and Rice
Chicken and Oatmeal
Chicken, Oatmeal, and Sweet Potato (Spanky's Fav)
Chicken, Sweet Potato, and White Potato
Chicken and Oatmeal

You do have the option to buy this product directly from Dee. Check out her website at www.peoplefood4dogs.com for options. Your doggie will thank you!

Students and Sams Club Memberships
This will be a short post, but I just wanted to make you aware, that if you have a valid student ID and you sign up as a new member for Sams Club, they will give you a $15 gift card. I decided to go back to Sams whenever they were having their sign up bonus of a $25 gift card for anyone with a new membership. (This promo was a couple of weeks ago and is over now) I'd let my membership end a couple of years ago. I felt that getting the membership for $15 might be worth it to go back. Anyways, when pulling my license out, my student ID fell out and the lady offered me the $15. She didn't realize I knew about the $25 and when asked she said I couldn't receive both. I was dissapointed lol. But the $15 for college students is still good.

Do You Have An Xbox Live Player In Your House?
There's no sound I despise more than the sound of the Microsoft Xbox tone when it comes on. I do HEART my Wii but that's a whole 'nother animal. DH is an avid Xbox player whether it's Halo 2 & 3 or Gears Of War. Once that tone is heard, that means for (at the very least) the next hour, there is going to be extensive screaming going on. Ah yes, the things we endure. Oh and let me throw this out there, having an Xbox Live account is no way frugal. Continue reading and you will see why we have it and if you do, how you can save some money.
If you're married, then you know that your relationship is based of each other's feelings, compromise, agreements, stuff of this nature. Nut-ah....in our house, the Xbox is not up for discussion. The only agreement we have is that if DS is in the room the language is controlled. Sadly, DS loves watching DH play. It worries me sometimes. When checking over the credit card statement, I realized that DH was paying for his Xbox Live membership via the monthly plan. I think it was like $7.99 per month. Once I saw that I flipped out. I know that if paid yearly, the membership is only $49.99. Paying by month totalled $95.88 for the year!
I went to DH and asked him why in the world did he decide to pay for it like that. Of course, I made the mistake asking him while he was playing. All I got was a shrug and an "I don't know". Loving huh? That's my fault though....I mean after all these years I know I can't go to him while he's cussing out 13 year olds. So...what did I do about it. Pay attention because this will save you some money. I went on Amazon.com. There, they sell 13 month Xbox Live membership cards. Yup and guess how much......only $38.99 with free shipping. Click here to buy. So instead of paying $4.17 a month you're only paying $2.99 a month. Or....if your husband signed up for a monthly plan, totally not thinking....you really saved $5 a month. I highly recommend these. Not only are you saving that money for the yearly plan, you're also not having to use a credit card so you avoid fees if you're not one to pay your credit card in full each month. It totally works out for everyone.
So, if your gamer is anything like my husband, buy the card and when it's delivered throw it at them while their playing and tell them to put it on there and if you see another charge on the credit card, you're hiding the power plug. :D

Review of K9cuisine.com
At lot of times when we talk about our families, our other family members slip through the cracks. I'm talking about our pets. That's where K9cuisine.com comes in. Let me start by saying the customer service at K9cuisine.com rocks! I was offered a chance to review some of their products and man, were they great. They were extremely generous!
K9cuisine.com's primary concern is providing high quality products with high quality customer service. What I thought was totally neat was the fact that most of their products use human grade ingredients. I can really appreciate this especially after that huge dog food recall that included popular brands. If you have a question about what's in the food you're looking at or you want to know the benefits over another brand, they can tell you. They actually WANT to tell you which is more than can be said over other online pet food companies.
All of the items that I was sent for my dogs were totally devoured. When looking over the ingredients I was surprised what I read. Well surprised for one that I could pronounce the words. A favorite of my dogs was the Tuscan Tomato Dog Treats. Look at the following ingredients:
