The K'NEX Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection should be a must have for your child this Christmas!I was stoked to have an opportunity from K'NEX and Team Mom to review the 123 Brownstone Building Set from the Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection. I loved how this set allows your child to build their favorite Sesame Street characters (including Elmo, Cookie Monster and Ernie) and then play with them! There are four individual sets to choose from:
Ice Cream Truck Building Set
123 Brownstone Building Set
Police Station Building Set
Police Car building Set. These sets promise awesome building fun over and over again!
The 123 Brownstone Building Set comes with Elmo and Cookie Monster. My son and I had tons of fun building and playing. We even got silly and mixed their pieces so that they were red and blue. It was cute watching my son cut up. He loved it! He loved the building up and knocking down. Of course Cookie Monster and Elmo being his favs helped out too.
The Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection is for children 2 years - 5years old. For my 3 year old I thought it was quite age appropriate. The pieces were big enough for him to handle and easy enough to put together himself. Which is important because I want him to be able to play with it all the time. Not just when mommy has time to sit down with him. There are tons of pieces so you don't have to worry about your child getting tired of it after one use!
Have I told you how much I loved this K'NEX line yet?
Let me tell you how smart K'NEX was in creating it! First, these sets include additional building ideas. So if you thought you built it all, check again! They also include a "Play & Learn" activity sheet which features educational and fun activities designed specifically for preschoolers and their parents. So aside from just being a "toy" it becomes a learning tool too. It covers things such as counting, colors, patterns, and other things. Who'da thunk?!
All of this greatness wrapped up into a little package encourages active development of:
* Physical Development: hand-eye coordination
* Social/Emotional Development: encourages imaginative play
* Language Development: talking about their creations can enhance their language skills
* Cognitive Skills: sorting and making patterns encourages thinking & problem-solving skills
I know, I know....great huh? Would you believe that these sets are only priced from $9.99 - $19.99?! And remember what I said, each set is interchangeable and designed to coordinate with each other so you have one bad mamma jamma (that's a good thing)
The K'NEX Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection is available at Target, Walmart or Toys "R" Us.
Right now, K'NEX is hosting The "Make a K"NEXion" Video Contest. Get your camera and your favorite K'NEX building set and make a "K'NEXion" Up for grabs is $1000 worth of K'NEX building sets. You can find contest rules on KNEX.com!

I think the sets are really cute, but in my opinion not really do-able for the average 3 year old. We have a few sets, and though my kids can connect the pieces, they have no clue where to put them unless I'm sitting down and showing them. So they don't enjoy playing with them unless I'm right there in there with them. so for us it's a play together toy and not a "mommy has to go cook dinner have fun by yourself" toy. Then again, my twins aren't QUITE 3 yet, and they're developmentally delayed so perhaps an average 3 year old who is closer to 4 would really get how these toys go together. For us, it's sitting on the shelf mostly until they're a little older. But oh so cute!
I have a child who just turned 3 last week. He loves playing with these types of blocks and he knows where all the pieces go. I don't really think it's fair to say it's not age appropriate for the average 3 year old because your kids don't know how play with it. I would actually say that Legos or Mega Blocks were the toy of choice in my son's daycare class. Great review Rebecca! I'm making a trip to Target today, this is going on the "Santa" list.
