The Tot Shield Review and Giveaway

For most people (myself included) grocery shopping is just part of life. You don't really evaluate the task for more than it's worth. The same goes for the shopping cart you use while you're there. *Raises hand in shame* yes I was one of those people who'd just plop my son down in a buggy and not think twice about it. He was never one to try and chew on the handle or the strap buckles so I figured we were good. Preoccupied with shopping, I never really took time to notice holding the handle and then rubbing his nose or putting his hands in his mouth. Once I finally did, I flipped out. I just thought about how many hands and kids who'd sat there prior oh it just grossed me out.

I did a search on how gross shopping carts really were and it brought up a hit for Snopes.com. If you don't know what Snopes.com is.... it is a web site with the purpose of proving fact or fiction of certain things including chain emails, urban legends, news stories....ect. Turns out that snopes.com proved true on how nasty shopping carts really are. They cite their source as a 4 year research study from the University of Arizona. I quote:

"According to a four-year study conducted by the University of Arizona's Environmental Research Lab and sponsored by Clorox, grocery carts are veritable petri dishes teeming with human saliva, mucus, urine, fecal matter, as well as the blood and juices from raw meat. Swabs taken from the handles and child seats of 36 grocery carts in San Francisco, Chicago, Tucson, and Tampa showed these common surfaces to rank third on the list of nastiest public items to touch, with only playground equipment and the armrests on public transportation producing more disgusting results. In terms of playing host to germs and bacteria, the carts are far worse than public bathrooms, which at least are cleaned more often. Bacteria and viruses such as E.coli, staphylococcus, salmonella, and influenza can live on grocery carts, a sorry fact most shoppers are blissfully unaware of."

I'll give you a moment to do a full body shiver.

Ok, so now that I've made you more of a germaphobe than you might've already been, let's assess what you can do about it. You could carry disinfectant wipes with you and clean it down every time you go to the store. However, it's a cost every time you use it and it's waste to add to the landfill. Or, you could get a reusable, comfortable shopping cart cover!

Look Ma! No Germs! Woo Hoo!

I found the perfect, frugal source for your shopping cart cover needs! It is called The Tot Shield! I was so thankful that The Tot Shield offered an opportunity for me to review this awesome product!

The Tot Shield is a wonderful great quality solution to those germy shopping carts. The available prints are cute to boot! Many different colors and prints are available. The Tot Shield is crafted with high quality fabric, and very tight stitching around the seams to ensure long lasting use! It is machine washable. From my experience, The Tot Shield held up very well to machine washing. I allowed it to air dry only because I always allow frequently used products of this nature to air dry. It allows them to last longer.

I absolutely love The Tot Shield! Our experience has been a great one. As you can tell from the picture above, DS loved riding around in it. It has just enough plush to make the shopping experience more comfortable for him. For the price, I was very impressed with how nice it was. The stitching quality was great and I loved how it even had holes for the shopping cart seat belt. It has held up very well. I have a feeling that it will be lasting us a long time.

Remember (how could you forget?!) what I quoted above mentioning the playground? What's great about The Tot Shield is, you can also use it to cover baby swings at the park! You can also use it in high chairs at the restaurant! It's a great multi-use product to keep your baby safe from touching nasty nasty germs! What surprised me was the quality in conjunction with the price. It's only $21.95 (plus s/h)!!! How great is that?!

If you're looking for a shopping cart cover for your child and don't wanna spend a ton of money, this is what you need. The customer service is great and the shipping is fast! This is definitely a frugal mom pick!

Oh, I should also mention since the case of germy shopping carts is on your mind. The Tot Shield also sells The Hand Shield! Don't have kids? Or not taking them to shop with you? Protect yourself by using The Hand Shield. It simply attaches around the handle to keep you germ free! It's super cheap at only $4.95!

The Tot Shield has also been kind enough to offer a Tot Shield to giveaway!

You know, I never even thought about how nasty those carts were when my kids were little either! But now, after reading your post and with so many new viruses and stuff-I am more vigilant. My first grandbaby is coming later this month and I would love to have the cute gender neutral design with the jungle animals (bottom right)thanks for the giveaway- it is a very useful item!
